ORCHARD SUHR
A FAMILY BUSINESS FOR MORE THAN 80 YEARS
The Suhr family currently manages an orchard of around 40 hectares in Oederquart in the Niederelbe / Altes Land apple-growing region. The place belongs to the joint municipality of Nordkehdingen and covers an area of 3710 hectares. Around 900 people live in Oederquart.
The company was founded in 1937 by Rudolf Suhr. At that time, he bought 14.5 hectares of farmland and planted it with fruit trees for the next two years. In 1948 his brother Johannes Suhr, the great-grandfather of today’s junior Patrick Suhr, joined the company. In 1952, another seven hectares were purchased on Neue Chaussee and the first fresh air storage facility was built on the quay. In 1960, Rudolf and Johannes Suhr founded the Suhr fruit mail-order company and built a sorting hall.
CULTIVATION EXPERTISE FOR FOUR GENERATIONS
In 1965, Dieter Suhr, son of Johannes Suhr, took over the business, which is now run by his son Frank and grandson Patrick. Through further purchases and leases, the area of the orchard was enlarged and increased to 40 hectares.
CONCENTRATED EXPERTISE
ORCHARD & MERCHANT
After completing his training (gardener specializing in fruit growing), Jens Suhr joined the company. In 1994, he and his father also built the first antifreeze sprinkler system for seven hectares.
Frank Suhr, Jens’ brother, worked for several years as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk at Cobana Fruchtring in Hamburg after completing his training as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk. In 1996, Frank Suhr entered fruit growing and fruit trading.

FRANK & PATRICK SUHR
FATHER & SON – ON THE GO WITH THE TEAM
The brothers Frank and Jens took over both companies in 2000. They continued to expand the company: in 2001 they had an empties hall and a CA/ULO warehouse for 350 tons built. In 2002 the old sorting hall was converted and a new sorting system was purchased. In 2007 an empties hall was built on the quay and in 2009 three CA/ULO warehouses for 230 tons of apples were built on the new road. In 2013, an empty/machine hall and a loading hall with loading ramps were built on the quayside at the existing CA/ULO warehouse.
In 2017 the Obsthof Suhr was founded, which was formerly called the Suhr Brothers. Frank’s son Patrick joins the company and takes over Jens Suhr’s shares.
