The beekeeping “Ikaria’s Nature Honey” is essentially the continuation of a four-generation tradition in bee care. Thus, with effort, dedication and special love to the traditional tools and knowledge that have passed from generation to generation, we have managed to develop this love and transform it into a family business. Of course, in the family term, besides the fourth beekeepers in generations, the young son who, by following the footsteps of his father last year, has taken on himself a part of the bees and the youngest daughter studying and at the same time assisting her mother in the commercial part of the business. |
The experience of the members of our business gives us a guarantee and prestige in the field of bees. At the same time, the development of state-of-the-art machines, our constant updating on beekeeping issues and our participation in exhibitions throughout Greece are an important part of the ongoing upward course of the business.
The diversity of the land and the mountains of Ikaria, which knows how to transform magically after every few meters, works favorably in the production of honey. Specifically, during our season our honeybees live in corresponding locations on the island, resulting in the variety of honey we produce. Also, we draw on honey, fresh pollen, royal jelly and propolis based on the food safety system.

| The honey of our island constituted and it is still our basic nutritional element – “secret” and it is reported to have absolute relation and relevance to our recorded and worldwide knowledge of our longevity. A solid confirmation of this contribution is the fact that all the productions of Ikaria (thyme, pine, honey and reed) are derived from native sources, on the one hand, and on the other hand the ferocity and hardness of our landscape, combined with the absence of intensive crops on the island, has zero sprays. So the result is a honey free from residues. Our contact with this divine product is lost in time and this creates us besides pride and deep commitment, that of the continuator of our tradition. We keep a strong beekeeping unit and we have the ability and pleasure to offer the wonderful product of our bee’s concerted effort to every sensible person of its value. |
| The Honey |
Bees appeared on earth 80 million years ago, around, and evolved from insects that looked like wasps. Today worldwide there are over 20,000 bee species and 700 genera, between them and the common bee Apis Mellifera L. believed that the point they began spreading the Apis Mellifera was the site of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The minimum bee size is 2 millimeters and the maximum is 39 millimeters. For the ancient Greeks honey was the food of the gods, for the Egyptian precious medicine. By the action of gastric fluids and enzymes, as well as various insect processes, it is completely transformed and finally transformed into this valuable product, honey.
It is a unique natural sweetener of great biological value, with distinct nutritional value. It has been proven by scientific research to be healthy food and has numerous ingredients essential to the human body. Thyme Honey
It flowers in May-June. Amber color, unique flavor and its unique fragrance are the qualities for which the king of honey is considered. For the first time in March 2021, the beekeeping “Honey from the Nature of Ikaria” participated in the global organic honey competition held in Italy, succeeding in achieving gold medals in the Thyme organic honey and the Flowering Variety Organic honey. In 2022, they took part in the competition again where I was awarded a gold medal for the heather and variegated honey, and a silver medal for the thyme and heather. These are distinctions that reward the quality of our honeys and give us the impetus to constantly strive for the best. |
