Apícola Cuartero Navarro SL Export company of Honey from Spain

ABOUT US
HISTORY
“Mieles del Tio Juan Cruz” was the Project born from the creation of “Apicola Cuartero Navarro S.l.” founded in the year 1981. We are talking about the small exploitation of the family’s beehives that his namesake “Sr. Juan Cruz” oversaw.
His son Adolfo wished to honour his father giving their honey his name, with the intent to pay homage to his standing and all his effort, and thus continue with the tradition, and therefore maintaining his legacy. Bit by bit he has managed to push the family business with close to 3000 beehives, spread over the whole of Spain.
The company is located around the mountains of Moncayo, famous Aragon Mountains surrounded by great florals, and thus filled with valuable resources which favour the production of natural honey

Values
Apicola Cuartero S.L. its Honey “Mieles del Tio Juan Cruz” have based their work ethics on establishing excellence in its production and the conservation of its taste parameters, and with this the conservation of bee’s and their hives, which in return favours the highest quality production of honey possibly.
We are talking about a 3rd Generation Family business centred on maintaining the highest level of products, with its development based on our planet’s ecological principals and all that it offers. Living from it without harming it. We also look to reinstate the traditional crafts, and to re-inhabit those areas that have become deserted.
At this moment of globalization, in which we are witnessing a loss of diversity within our cultivation and its products, “Apicola Cuartero S.L.” proposes that we maintain as well as recover the traditional tastes, that our earthly resources come through in our presented form with all of its values intact. The objective being to stand out from standard products that continuously appear without any distinguishing variant of taste. “Miel del tio Juan Cruz” relies on the values derived from nature as its main distinguishable element, allowing to note the different nuances between one harvest and another, always controlling the most demanding level of quality.

Manufacturing processes
Situated in Ebro valley and its foothills in Moncayo, This Spanish Company is situated in a most privileged location allowing access not only to Aragon’s rosemary fields, but also access to the summer mountain floral within its region. Being in a privileged logistic location, there is unfettered access to all the other region like areas of the Mediterranean, the plateaus of Castilla, or the Cantabrico heaths.
100% of all our production follows the traditional elaboration processes, combined with the latest technology. The process begins with the careful exploitation of our close to 3000 hives where hundreds of thousands of the “Apis melífera” species of bee collecting the nectar of all the different flora which is taken back to the hives where they create Honey, Wax and Jelly.
Honey is a food product wise process starts with the plant, which produces the nectar mainly in the interior base of the flower. Once the bees have pollinated it the nectar is taken held in the bee’s honey sac to the hive and stored in the honeycombs cells where the honey finishes maturing which are then collected by the beekeeper. The honey is extracted, and the cells are cleaned for the bees to use again. The process is finalised with filtering of the Honey and its packaging.

THE BEES
Beekeeping in Spain is a challenging profession where in the present day you have to deal various risks which threaten our bee’s existence, like climate change, industrial agriculture, monocultures (less availability and diversity of sustenance for insects) and the use of systemic toxic pesticides.
Bees have a fundamental role in the upkeep of our eco-systems riches around the world therefore beekeeping is of the utmost importance and the proliferation and repopulation of these insects. As well a food production like the earths biodiversity they depend largely on pollination, a natural process that allows flowers to be fertilized and in turn give us the fruit and its seeds. Bees are responsible for most of this process.
Despite the importance this has their population is diminishing enormously. For this reason, Apicola Cuartero S.l. rejects all types of pesticides harmful to bees and around soon to be pollinated flowers, supporting a new model of agriculture respectful, sustainable, as ecological as possible, distancing ourselves from the industrial agricultural model which large multinational corporations wish to impose. It is for this that for a long time Apicola Cuartero S.L. looks to rest its hives only on wild, unadulterated, and clean locations, selected after searching through the vast locations empty, abandoned that remain scattered across Spain.

OUR FLORA
With the close to 3000 Hives that Apicola Cuartero S.L. has distributed over Spain’s vast geographical expanse ensuring that “Mieles del Tio Juan Cruz” encompass exceptionally large variety of flora in the most diverse ecosystems so the bees can pollinate.
From the Aragon territory, we take advantage of our flora such as Rosemary, and Pink Thyme, the first produces a noticeably clear and smooth tasting honey with a pleasant aromatic aftertaste; the second with a defined amber colour and sweet taste with touches of acidity.
The Mountain ranges offer a different type of varieties, such the Lavender Honey, with powerful refreshing qualities; Heather with an Amber-Red colour and profound taste; Eucalyptus Highly aromatic with a woody taste; Red Lavender, smooth taste and perfumed aroma; Blackberry honeydew, Rare and Exclusive Honey purely from the juicy blackberry’s; Oak and Holm Oak honeydew, dark colour and profound taste due to its high content in Iron.
The Mediterranean zones also boast a flower nectar that is very attractive to bees. The Spanish Eastern, regions produce the Orange Blossom, or Orange tree, loquat, and lemon tree, producing a very fine and aromatic citric taste of honey.
The Spanish Plateaus gift us with such flora like the Sunflower, the Savoury herb plant, White lavender, and Wild lavender. The First of which has a clear light amber colour, sweet taste a floral bouquet with traces of oil. The second a dense honey a tending to a dark colour and superior quality.
From the prairies of the Ebro valley, we have the “Wildflower” Honey’s as well as Alfalfa. Like its namesake our “Wildflower” honey comes from loads of different flowers that grow wild in the valley.
The other plants that are used to create Miel del Tio Juan Cruz are Linden, which produces yellow colour honeys smooth with a fragrant bouquet. The Chestnut which the wise bees know to extract and convert into a dark honey with a balsamic taste; y Acacia, which produces a crystalline thin liquid, with a smooth taste that awards the taste buds an incomparable sweetness.
Mieles del Tío Juan Cruz

This is a result of the hard work done by “Apicola Cuartero S.L”, a Family business born three generations ago and situated around the mountains of Moncayo. With close to 3000 beehives, our honey is entirely produced in Spain, and come from best floral areas that Spain’s geography has to offer
Boasting more than 20 varieties of honey and other products, coming directly from our natural resource, carefully selecting our beehives settlements in the wild free of all pesticides. And every year retaking the ancestral migratory routes, meaning that every variety of honey harvested is uniquely different, and can differ even though being of the same variety. It is by these means that with “Miel del Tio Juan Cruz” we have achieved the revival of the old memories from our youth when we would go straight the beekeeper with our parents to buy honey.
NB: We do not sell direct to consumers.
OUR PRODUCTS
Nature offers us vastly different types of honey, as its flavouring depends on what is in the nectar that the bees imbibe. We have deeply intense varieties which can be recognised by their darker colour, and the smoother varieties which reflect a lighter colouring.
Here you can find all products from “Miel del Tio Juan Cruz” which come in our large jar (910gr) medium (450gr) and small (250gr). All our labels come in 5 languages (Spanish, English, French, German, and Arabic- Classic).
